The boys were the captured sons of rival lords. It was considered the height of defeat to take the men’s sons: the continuation of their bloodlines, and turn them to slavery, giving them women’s roles no less. It was the slaves’ job to provide entertainment for the Lord and his guests, and so they danced naked, for hours on end, whilst the Lord and his guests revelled around them.
